About Me!

My name is Wendy Russell and I was born and educated in Toronto, Ontario.

Primarily a self-taught artist working in acrylics, I enjoy the process of drawing and spending time developing the composition of each work. I paint the natural world, landscapes, seascapes and stylized florals that are saturated with color and vivid representations of each reference photo. I'm particularly inspired by painting a piece of a larger image so I can concentrate on the details.

I have been influenced by the works of Canadian artist, Lawren S. Harris (1885-1970), for his bold and vigorous depiction of the Canadian landscape. I am also influenced by American artist, Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986) and identify strongly with Ms. O’Keeffe’s words on her art:
"...I often painted fragments of things because it seemed to make my statement as well as or better than the whole could...I had to create an equivalent for what I felt about what I was looking at...not copy it."
